Eddie Kramer is a legendary recording engineer, producer, and mix engineer, best known for his work with some of the most iconic rock artists of all time, including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Kiss, David Bowie, and Peter Frampton. His groundbreaking recording techniques and innovative mixing style have helped shape the sound of classic rock and continue to influence generations of engineers and producers.
Born in South Africa, Kramer moved to London in the early 1960s, where he quickly established himself as a sought-after engineer at Olympic Studios and later Record Plant Studios in New York. It was during this time that he became the go-to engineer for Jimi Hendrix, working on legendary albums such as Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland. His experimental approach to sound, creative use of reverb, and pioneering stereo effects played a crucial role in defining Hendrix’s psychedelic and innovative sound.
Kramer’s collaborations with Led Zeppelin on albums like Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, and Houses of the Holy also helped solidify his status as a mixing and engineering icon, capturing the band's raw energy while refining their studio sound. Beyond his work with rock giants, he also worked with The Beatles on select projects, including engineering the orchestral overdubs for "All You Need Is Love."
